Once you are in stable condition, you will be discharged. It is normal to experience sleepiness and dizziness for 12 to 24 hours after surgery.

What should I expect immediately after surgery?
With just about any orthopedic surgical procedure, including joint replacement surgery and revision surgery (replacing a worn-out artificial joint from a previous surgery), you’ll have some pain and swelling. Your doctor and clinical team will work with you to effectively manage your pain and ensure you’re healing as expected.
What is minimally invasive surgery?
Minimally Invasive Surgery uses medical instruments and cameras that let doctors see the area being operated on without the need for large incisions. Minimally invasive surgery accomplishes the same treatment goals as traditional open surgery, but typically results in:
- Smaller incisions.
- Less damage to surrounding muscles and tissues.
- Less blood loss.
- Shorter hospital stays.
- Less scarring.
- Speedier recovery times.
What pain should I expect after surgery?
Pain is relative — your tolerance for pain may differ from that of the next person. It’s natural to experience some pain or discomfort at the surgical site as well as some possible bone/joint tenderness after surgery. Your orthopedic surgeon will work closely with your clinical team and other caregivers to determine the best pain management strategy for you.
After injections, when can I resume physical activity?
The most important part of any stem cell therapy is adhering to your post-procedure restrictions, which are covered before your procedure. For the procedure to have the best chance to yield lasting benefit, our physician strongly recommends:
- No anti-inflammatory medications for a minimum (preferred) 6 weeks
- Rest for the first 24–48 hours, but do not lie sedentary
- Start Physical Therapy within 4-6 days

What to Expect After Your Visit
Post Care: You will receive verbal and written post-surgical care instructions (please follow these instructions). Your escort must be available to discuss and sign these instructions before you will be allowed to go home. If you experience anything unusual after your surgery, please call your surgeon or go to the nearest emergency room. A nurse from our center will call you after your surgery to check on your recovery.
Transportation: DO NOT PLAN TO DRIVE yourself home or use public transportation after your procedure. A friend, relative or dedicated caregiver over the age of 18 MUST stay with you for 24 hours.
